The 13-4 49ers are in the Divisional R0und of the playoffs once again and now the question is can they make it to the Superbowl? Last year if you recall they had a big upset win in Green Bay in the divisional round. Then they lost to the Rams in the NFC Conference game and once again came up short. In the last 10 years they've only been to the Superbowl twice and lost both times.
This year however things are different as they are the #2 seed in the NFC and have a much stronger team then previous years. The midseason trade for Christian McCaffrey is paying dividends and rise of Brock Purdy is just plain pretty. They finished the season with a 10 game winning streak and crushed the Seahawks last week in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs. Next up is the Cowboys who are going to San Francisco on Sunday. The 49ers are favored and I would be shocked if they lose. The real task will come in the NFC conference game if the Eagles beat the Giants on Saturday that would set up a 49er-Eagle showdown in Philly next weekend.
If the 49ers make it to Superbowl LVII in Arizona there is a possibility that it could be a rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs beat the 49ers in 2019 31-20. A game that saw a 49ers lead dwindle away in the second half to a young superstar on the rise by the name of Patrick Mahomes. Can the 49ers put the past behind them and ride the hot hand of QB Brock Purdy? Another reason why I think they can is because their defense is much better than previous years and probably the best in the NFL this year. Only time will tell if this is the "Year of the 49ers" story by Paul Salerno
